Bitcoin’s mining difficulty has increased by 0.61%, climbing from 109.78 trillion to 110.45 trillion, signaling a slightly more challenging environment for miners. Simultaneously, the network’s hashrate has dropped from its peak of 824 exahash per second (EH/s) on January 6, 2025, to 778 EH/s, reflecting subdued computational power.

The difficulty adjustment follows the mining of block height 878,976 and underscores the dynamic nature of Bitcoin’s network. With the difficulty now at 110.45 trillion, hashing computations have become 110.45 trillion times more complex than Bitcoin’s original baseline difficulty set in 2009. This adjustment ensures the network maintains its target of producing one block approximately every 10 minutes.

Currently, Foundry USA dominates the mining sector, contributing 34.73% of the global hashrate, roughly 265 EH/s. Antpool follows with 17.01%, adding just over 130 EH/s, while Viabtc ranks third, supplying 109 EH/s or 14.26% of the total computational power. Altogether, 65 mining pools or entities contribute to Bitcoin’s hashrate, highlighting the network’s decentralized infrastructure.

Despite the robust activity, miners face mounting challenges with decreasing profitability. Over the past 30 days, mining revenues have dropped to their lowest levels of the month. On December 15, 2024, one petahash per second (PH/s) of hashrate earned $65.10 per day, but this figure has since fallen to $52.22, marking a 19.79% decline. This revenue reduction adds pressure on miners as they navigate the evolving dynamics of computational power and market conditions.

These recent changes point to a recalibration phase for Bitcoin’s ecosystem. The decline in hashrate, coupled with rising difficulty and falling revenues, reflects the challenges miners must overcome. However, these metrics also highlight Bitcoin’s inherent resilience and adaptability. How miners adjust their strategies in response to these economic signals will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Bitcoin’s mining landscape. The network’s ability to balance these pressures will be pivotal in maintaining its long-term stability and growth.
